Virlany Taboada, Student Body Treasurer Candidate
Virlany Taboada is a third-year student at the University of Florida, and has made the most of her time in Gainesville. She currently serves as the Budget Chairwoman of the Student Senate, where she directly supervises and allocates the $14.4 million budget of student government. In her role, she maintains fiscal responsibility and ensures that the benefits of student government are able to reach as many students as possible. She has also been active outside of student government, having served as Treasurer of Hispanic Heritage Month where she supervised a budget of over $60,000. Virlany’s extensive experience with student government finances have prepared her to serve as an effective and efficient Student Body Treasurer.
Marcus Dixon, Student Body Vice Presidential Candidate
Marcus Dixon has a distinguished career in the student government Cabinet. Currently serving as a Cabinet Chairman, Marcus served last year as the Cabinet Director for Community and Government, where he organized the first-ever Majors Fair and was awarded Cabinet Director of the Year. Outside of student government, he is active in the Black Student Assembly and serves as President of the University Gospel Choir. Marcus strives for excellence in each endeavor he pursues and strongly believes in the positive impact student government can have on individuals. As Vice President, he plans to maximize that impact by leading an active Cabinet.
Ashton Charles, Student Body Presidential Candidate
Ashton Charles is the current President of the Student Senate, the culmination of nearly two years in Senate, where she has led efforts to increase students’ involvement in their government. Some of her notable achievements include spearheading the project to place hand sanitizers in strategic locations within the Reitz Union as well as negotiating for the University Athletic Association to match student fundraising to send to those in need in Haiti. In the past, she has been active in Gator Growl, having risen to Associate Producer. Ashton heavily values community service, and has accumulated over 1,000 hours since 2006. Despite all of her activities, Ashton has excelled as a student, having been honored in 2009 as a J. Wayne Reitz Union Scholar. Currently running for Student Body President, Ashton looks forward to continuing her service to the University of Florida student body.
